Carmen declares that every man she loves must be careful. But even she is unprepared for what will happen when she decides to seduce Don José, an army corporal who initially seems uninterested in her charms. Don José soon leaves his lover Micaëla and his army job for Carmen and joins her and her smuggler friends in the mountains. But Carmen soon has enough of Don José's possessiveness. When she turns her attention to the tempestuous toreador Escamillo, Don José's jealousy erupts into violence.
Aigul Akmetshina plays the title role in Damiano Michieletto's vibrant new production of Bizet's still beloved opera.
